Shealynn August
I am a Certified Health Coach, Certified Holistic Health Practitioner, and Certified ZYTO Specialist with over a decade of experience in herbalism, aromatherapy, and natural wellness.
My background comes from both education and hands-on experience. I have worked with clients, taught health coaching, and spent years studying and practicing natural approaches to skin and body care.
Long before this became a business, I was creating my own products at home out of necessity. As a single mom, I needed something simple, clean, and affordable that I could trust for myself and my family.
That is where all of this truly began.
In 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, I packed up my life in Louisiana and moved back home to Wyoming.
My mom had become very sick after getting COVID while already battling cancer, and I needed to be there with my dad to help care for her.
At the same time, I needed a way to support myself and my kids.
I had already been making products for over ten years, so I decided to turn that into a business.
It originally started under the name Sunshine & Grace Botanicals, working out of my parents’ basement, printing my own labels, and making everything completely by hand.
In June of 2020, I officially launched with over 30 products.
What started as something I needed quickly grew into something much bigger. I began selling at markets, connecting with people face to face, and eventually placing products in shops.
The business grew quickly, but more importantly, it was built during a time where care, consistency, and showing up every day truly mattered.
During that time, I created my magnesium butter.
It became a consistent part of caring for my mom.
She struggled with pain, restless legs, and sleep, and this was something we used daily to support her comfort. It became part of our routine, especially in the evenings.
As her health declined, I continued using the products I had created all the way through her end-of-life care in July of 2022.
Those moments are what shaped how I see this business.
This is not just about skincare.
It is about care. It is about presence. It is about creating small moments of comfort when they are needed most.
I shared this story often at markets, and it connected deeply with people.
Not because it was a sales point, but because it was real.
And even now, that is what matters most to me.
That what I create can genuinely help someone in their own life, in their own moments.
My mom went home to the Lord on July 16, 2022. Her courage, her strength, and the way she supported me and this business are things I carry with me every day.
From 2020 to 2024, I built this business steadily.
I sold a significant amount of products, built relationships with customers, and continued refining everything I made. Magnesium became a cornerstone, and later adding tallow in 2024 brought even more growth.
In 2024, everything changed.
I had to leave a domestic abuse marriage for my safety and for my children.
When I left, I left behind my entire business. My equipment, my inventory, my formulas, and the work I had spent years building.
There was no transition or preparation. I had to start over.
In 2025, I began again from nothing.
Around that same time, I found out I was pregnant with my son.
There were moments where continuing felt uncertain, but I kept moving forward.
At the beginning of 2026, I made the decision to fully step into this again and pursue Olive + Alder Co. full time.
What exists today is not a continuation of what I had before. It is something rebuilt from the ground up.
This business has been built through real life.
Through seasons of starting from nothing, rebuilding, and continuing to show up.
It has supported me as a single mother. It has allowed me to care for my family. And it has given me the opportunity to create products that truly matter to the people using them.
This is not just a business. These are real products used by real people, in real moments that matter. Everything is created with others in mind, with the hope that what I make can genuinely support someone in their everyday life.
Everything here is made with intention, experience, and care.
And I am grateful you are here.
Olive + Alder Co. is rooted in simple, effective care made with intention. Every product is handcrafted in small batches using trusted ingredients that support the skin without overcomplicating it. This is a return to what skincare should be.
Made with ingredients you can trust and nothing your skin doesn’t need. Every product is crafted to support your skin in a way that feels steady, simple, and effective.
